With temperatures dropping, the Perryville Fire Department is providing the community with some safety tips to keep in mind during the cold months ahead.
When cold weather sets in, space heaters come out, so before you start up a space heater, here are some quick safety tips to keep in mind:
- Keep the space heater at least three feet away from anything flammable, like
blankets, curtains and furniture.
- Plug the space heater directly into the wall. Avoid using extension cords to
prevent overheating.
- Remember to turn the space heater off when you leave the room or
especially when you go to bed. There are safety devices on the machine
but they can fail.
- Give it a check for any damage and make sure the cords are not frayed
before you use them.
- Anyone with questions can call the Perryville Fire Department to answer them and/or provide any additional information needed.
