When Bair Hopkins, a senior on the Perryville High School cross-country team, competed in the JCAA Conference meet held Oct. 19 in Festus, he had no idea that he would break a long-standing PHS record — but he did!
Hopkins placed third with a personal record and a new men’s PHS High School record with a time of 16:10:21. The previous record, which had stood for 32 years, was 16:29, set by Damian Erzfeld in 1992.
Also on the varsity side finishers for PHS were senior Porter Johnson (22), with a time of 17:59; Junior Clayton Bauwens (23), with a time of 18:02; junior Micah Brown (33), with a time of 18:35; senior Preston Johnson (34), with a time of 18:43; junior Rodney Rauh (47) with a time of 21:11, and junior Brandon Roth (48), with a time of 21:33.
The boys’ varsity team finished the meet in fourth place.
On the men’s JV side, sophomore Aidan Unverferth (32) finished with a time of 21:48; senior Trace Austin (37) finished with a time of 22:57; freshman Cale Austin (38) finished with a time of 23:08; and freshman Colton O’Keefe (39) finished with a time of 23:16.
Girls varsity junior Alexa Hagan (29) finished with a time of 24:20; sophomore Miley Reed (31) finished with a time of 24:59; sophomore Lucy Blythe (34) finished with a time of 25:11; and senior Josephine Lohmann (35) finished with a time of 25:31.
